One of the characteristics of stable health systems is the strong position of the general physician as -gatekeeper of the healthcare system. General practitioners in countries with strong primary contact provide 80% to 90% of all visits without recommending a higher level of health care, most often specialised outpatient care.
The aim is to gradually increase the competence status of general practitioners and primary paediatricians by 2030. The current limits of competence constitute an obstacle to the development and attractiveness of the profession of general practitioner and primary paediatrician.
Throughout the process of implementing the extension of competences, it is necessary to monitor:
- the principle of expansion of the responsibilities spread over time (with a view to relieving doctors and the necessary transfer of selected activities from doctors to nurses and other staff in office);
- the voluntary principle (taking into account the high average age of doctors).
Implemented actions:
- Indication of osteodensitometric examination by the general physician
- Release of prescription and indication restrictions to oral lipid-lowering medicinal products for general practitioners
