Speech by Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarsky on the situation in Ukraine and related actions in the health sector

Ladies and gentlemen,
The situation in Ukraine is serious, so we have assessed in the health sector how we could help in this difficult situation if necessary.
In Slovakia, we have a total of 31 000 beds in our hospitals under the extended bed fund, from which 5380 beds are reserved for the needs of the Slovak Armed Forces and NATO requirements. Warful migrants in need of health care will be placed in the nearest medical facility in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and the Emergency Response Centre. We're in close cooperation with the police and military forces.
In particular, hospitals that are economic mobilization entities in the Prešov and Košice regions, the closest to the Ukrainian border, will be involved in the provision of hospital health care. Hospitals are prepared for Košice region: University Hospital of L. Pasteur in Košice, Children's Faculty Hospital in Košice, Hospital with Polyclinic Spišská Nová Ves, Hospital with Polyclinic in Trebišov, Hospital with Polyclinic in Michalovce, Hospital in Rožňava, Psychiatric Medicine Plešivec, Eastern Slovak Cancer Institute in Košice, Eastern Slovak Institute of Heart and Vascular Diseases Košice. For Prešovský kraj are prepared: Faculty Hospital with Polyclinic J. A. Reimana Prešov, Hospital with Polyclinic Bardejov, Hospital Humenné, Ľubovňa Hospital, Hospital Poprad, Hospital in Svidník, Hospital Snina, Vranovská Hospital. My team will be in touch with the medical authorities today.
The Red Cross and other organizations will operate in so-called Home Office hotspots for refugees.
Within the framework of the emergency health service, rescue medical services are designated as economic mobilization entities for the rescue service Bratislava and the Rescue Health Service Košice, which have 151 ground emergency health service stations and 7 aviation emergency health service stations.
The national transfusion service, as an economic mobilisation entity, shall ensure blood and blood transfusions where necessary. That is also the way I call on people, as the Minister of Health, to go, if they can, to donate blood. It will also help patients in hospitals, apart from the current war conflict in Ukraine.

My team at the Ministry, in liaison with the main surgeons, internal medicine, oncology and psychiatry, updated the list of medicines, medical devices and special medical supplies to provide material reserves to hospitals for 30 days.
Ladies and gentlemen, in cooperation with our colleagues from the government cabinet, we are intensively communicating with each other and setting up the necessary measures in advance.
Thank you.Príhovor ministra zdravotníctva SR Vladimíra Lengvarského k situácii na Ukrajine a súvisiacim krokom v sektore zdravotníctva
