Good news for parents of children with achondroplasia called thumbs. The Marketing Authorisation Holder (MAH) of Voxzogo, a manufacturer for the treatment of this rare disease, submitted an application for its categorisation. This is the first step in order to be covered by public health insurance.
Minister for Health Zuzana Dolinková explained that only the marketing authorisation holder can make an application for a classification. This step is therefore an important part of the process of ensuring the availability of this medicine to patients in Slovakia in the framework of health insurance. The Ministry has made every effort to help patients with achondroplasia,' said the Minister for Health. This important step was preceded by a number of years of effort only at the level of the Presidential Palace.
As Minister Dolinková added, the application will be evaluated in the coming weeks and discussed with the holder the conditions for reimbursement. We aim to reach an agreement that will make Voxzogo available to patients in Slovakia without undue financial burdens. I believe that by working together and in cooperation with all the parties involved, we will achieve this goal, and the Minister for Health has added. After completion of the evaluation and negotiations with the marketing authorisation holder, the medicinal product should be submitted for discussion of the Categorisation Committee for Medicinal Products.
Achondroplasia is the most common form of hereditary disproportion of the figure. It is characterised by abnormal bone growth, manifested by a small figure with disproportionately small arms and legs, large head and facial features. According to clinical studies, early administration in small patients promotes growth and has a positive effect on associated complications. Voxzogo is covered by an exceptional health insurance scheme.
