The Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic starts vaccination with Nuvaxoid vaccine from Novavax. The vaccine is also suitable for those who have had a medical contraindication to previously approved vaccines against COVID-19 disease.
Vaccination will be started from Thursday 10.3.202 in the vaccination centers of the Faculty Hospital Trnava and the Faculty Hospital with Polyclinic in Banská Bystrica, from Friday 11.3.2022 in the vaccination center of the Faculty Hospital Prešov, gradually joining other subjects.
From Monday 14.3.2022, vaccines will be available for vaccination in 46 centres throughout Slovakia.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended the conditional registration of the vaccine in December. Experts put hope in it because it could convince anyone who does not trust modern mRNA or vector vaccines. The vaccine is built on a protein-based basis. Vaccines used for decades, such as flu, jaundice or cervical cancer, also work on the same principle, explained the Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský.
Details of vaccine Nuvaxovid can be found at ŠUKL:https://www.sukl.sk/main-page/slovak-version/safety-medicines/vaccines/vaccines-anti-civid-19/nuvaxoid-documents?page id=5758
In Slovakia, vaccines from three manufacturers have been used to prevent COVID-19 disease: Comirnate from Pfizer, Spikevax from Moderna and single-dose Janssen vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. Nuvaxoid is suitable for people over 18 years of age.
The vaccination register is launched on the page korona.gov.sk, where the candidate chooses the vaccination site. However, vaccination for candidates will be possible even without prior registration. You just have to come to the vaccination centre with the insured person's card and ID card, Minister Lengvarsky explained.
According to data from the National Health Information Centre, 1771 waiting persons are currently enrolled for Nuvaxoid and 130 people are already assigned a vaccination date.
Novavax vaccination is possible as a first vaccination or as a booster dose (third dose).
