The third largest project in health co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan officially moved to the construction phase. The construction of a new pavilion in the hospital began with the festive laying of the foundation stone building in the presence of Minister of Health Zuzana Dolinková. The foundation concrete piles of the new building should start in the coming weeks. At the same time, reconstruction works in the original building, where a new department of surgery will be created, have started. The reconstruction in the existing hospital monoblock will be completed by mid- 2026, a new pavilion later by the end of 2028. The hospital, even after this investment, will continue to be part of the property of Košice self-governing region.
–Thanks to funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, we are gradually succeeding in modernising medical facilities across Slovakia. We are trying to ensure that our patients have access to healthcare at European level. I am pleased that the building industry will soon begin in the hospital in Spišská Nová Ves, which will bring citizens a new three-storey pavilion with a new obstetrics and reconstruction of the hospital part with a new surgical department. I appreciate that the hospital also invests in the health and well-being of future mothers and I believe that the new pleasant spaces will give them a sense of security and privacy. At present, when the demands of future mothers increase and they have the opportunity to choose a maternity home according to their wishes, reconstruction of medical facilities is essential. Modernisation will bring citizens Spiš new beds, better health care in a modern environment and an experienced medical team will be able to take care of more patients thanks to the expansion of the premises, approached Zuzana Dolinková, Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic.
The building of the new hospital pavilion will have 3 floors and zero floors. There will be a gynaecological-natal department including a new maternity home, a newborn intensive care unit, anesthesiology and multi-disciplinary intensive care departments, central operating halls, one-day surgery and central sterilization.

I am very pleased to see that this pavilion brings a new level of quality of healthcare provided to our patients in addition to the modern building. On one floor we centralize intensive care for all patients, creating an even safer environment for them, building a new operating tract to increase the number of operating halls from four to eight, so we will significantly expand the operation. Moms will be born in five separate birth rooms, where they will spend all birthing times in one place and, if necessary, will be able to be hospitalized with their baby in the newborn intensive care unit. We are already trying to think about the details, and we are all working together to arrive in a few years' time at the top modern hospital that our patients deserve,Renáta Šuláková, director of Hospital Penta Hospitals Spišská Nová Ves, said.
As part of the start of the construction works, they started in the hospital and reconstruction of the existing monoblock, where a new surgical bed compartment was created. The conversion of the original premises will be carried out again from the reinforced concrete skeleton. The department will have 14 new double rooms and 6 single rooms in the highest standard. There will also be a background for doctors, a seminary room or a modern cousin.
The project of a new hospital in Spišská Nová Ves is the third largest investment project of the Recovery and Resilience Plan in the Slovak health sector. The Ministry of Health allocated EUR 48 million to it. VAT.
The new pavilion building is conceptually based on the New Generation Hospital project in Michalovce. It is intended to significantly improve acute health care in the wider Spiš region. The hospital, even after this investment, should continue to be part of the property of Košice self-governing region.
This important project will significantly evaluate the public property of the Košice self-governing region and, most importantly, will significantly improve acute health care throughout Spiš and its surroundings. We are pleased that hospitals owned by the county, in cooperation with the Penta Hospitals network, are gradually developing and modernising throughout the region. I believe that the new hospital will attract high-quality doctors and health professionals and will also create secondary jobs. We want to develop this region, but without being able to keep the educated people here, we simply cannot. The construction of this hospital is therefore also of profound social importance for the whole region, said Rastislav Trnka, county of Košice self-governing region.
According to the current schedule, a part of the hospital with 34 beds and a three-storey pavilion with 121 beds will be renovated by June 2026. Its complete completion is scheduled until the end of 2028. The new hospital pavilion building will meet the strictest environmental criteria and will be among the most modern in Europe in terms of energy efficiency.
