Since 2018, the professional and lay public has been regularly confronted with changes in the name of the health profession, once a medical assistant, at other times a practical nurse, and following these changes, the name of the field of study at secondary health schools in Slovakia is naturally changed.The instability of the name of the health profession, as well as the name of the field of study, is confusing and unmotivating, both for young people who opt for the demanding but health system needed health professions, as well as for their parents, the public and healthcare providers.
Since March 2022, the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic plans a draft amendment of Act No. 578/2004 Z. z., to change the name of the medical profession from a medical assistant to a practical nurse,
The medical worker's practical nurse is part of a multidisciplinary team and, together with the nurses responsible for general care, nurses and nurses participate in providing nursing care to patients, as well as improving and maintaining their quality of life.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic declares that it will implement the necessary legislative processes, with the intention of re-establishing in secondary health schools in SR study field practical nurse.
Pupils who, in May 2022, conduct admission examinations at high school in the field of study by a medical assistant, will also complete their studies with a graduation exam in the field of study.
