On Monday 7 February 2022, the 3rd meeting took place The Board of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Mental Health, which was established on the initiative of the Department of Health, whose role is to create a platform for inter-ministerial communication and links between professionals from various and non-medical spheres (except for doctors, psychologists and educators, logos and social workers) in the field of mental health, which is essential for fulfilling reform plans and tasks. The meeting was conducted by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Government for Mental Health, Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský: The health sector supports the process of reform in the field of mental health, in which we will make every effort to remove the various obstacles that hinder systemic, professional and inter-ministerial work on this subject, and will oversee the implementation of the Council's resolutions. We also want to focus on the development of legislation on psychological activity and the performance of psychotherapy across sectors, by which we will remove legislative barriers and non-systemic mental health actions.
The Council of Government agreed with the proposal to build up human resources in the field of mental health in health and called on the Ministry of Health to supplement this proposal with the number of other health and non-health professionals required for the optimal functioning of the mental health care system.
The proposed change should strengthen the long-term sub-dimensional numbers of health and non-health professionals to ensure accessible, professional and permanent mental health care patients also in emerging establishments. One of the objectives of the reform is the creation of a network of mental health advisory services aimed at preventing and early mental health problems. Another theme was prevention of burnout syndrome among health workers in Slovakia. In order to meet the need for both acute and long-term psychosocial care for health workers, the Council supported the proposal for a system to prevent this syndrome and recommended that the department take the necessary measures leading to the effective functioning and sustainability of the system. The Board of Government of the Slovak Republic for Mental Health took note of the draft strategic objectives of the National Mental Health Programme, which were prepared on the basis of an analysis of mental health needs from individual departments and also based on WHO recommendations. The strategic objectives will be the starting point for the development of the Action Plan for the Development of the National Mental Health Programme. The new secretary of the council is Desanka Kander, Head of Department of Senior Coordination at the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic.
