Interested in Resident study on Monday had the opportunity to obtain detailed information about this form of study during the Information Day to the Resident study at the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. The information day was opened by the State Secretary Jaroslav Ridoško, who stressed that the resort launched this programme, as he considered it a very important step towards stabilizing the number of general doctors and paediatricians. We consider the President's programme to be an effective tool for getting missing experts, especially in regions where they are most needed in the future to contribute to even better access to healthcare, stated MZ SR State Secretary.
Students of medical faculties, as well as current residents, could discuss directly with representatives of universities - from the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava, the University of Jessenius in Martin and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of P. J. Šafárik in Košice, as well as the main specialist of MZ SR for general medicine, as expert guarantor of the residence study MUDr. Jana Bendová, PhD. and other specialists for general care of children and adolescents. In April there will also be an Information Day for students interested in living studies for 5th and 6th year students for the Centre and East of Slovakia at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of P. J. Šafárik in Košice. The Ministry of Health also prepares information lectures to promote Resident study at medical faculties for students of 5th and 6th years:

Lack of doctors is a long-standing problem not only in Slovakia and one of the steps to increase their number is the Resident study. In addition to general medicine and pediatrics, Resident study was extended to other specialization fields, in which there is a shortage of specialists - doctors: neurology, surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, internal medicine, paediatric psychiatry, urgent medicine, anesthesiology and intensive medicine and for nurses in specialized fields: anesthesiology and intensive care, instrumentalization in the operating room and nursing care in the psychiatric hospital.
As of 1.10.2018 a total of 311 residents were enrolled in the resident study, including general medicine 207 and paediatrics 104. On 29.11.2018 the resident study completed a specialist examination of a total of 104 residents, of which general medicine 91 and paediatrics 13.
