The Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic is focused on promoting innovation and breakthrough technologies in Slovak healthcare through R & D projects. The aim is to accelerate the implementation of innovations that will bring benefits to citizens/patients while having the greatest potential to improve and introduce systemic health changes.
From 1 June 2024 MZ SR established a new section of R & D & D & Programme (JHAP) which will serve as a key pillar for supporting R & D projects funded by the Slovak Programme (PSK) and the state budget.
SVVP prepared the following basic documents for the launch of R & D calls from the Slovak programme:
- The concept of support for R & D projects in the field of health from PSK sources in the collection of MZ SR,
- Brief aims of calls to support R & D in the Healthy Society domain, the first three demand-oriented challenges;
- Proposal for evaluation and selection criteria - first three demand-oriented challenges;
- R & D & I support scheme in the field of health (State aid scheme - 21.8.204
approved by the Antitrust Authority of the Slovak Republic.
When planning support for R & D projects from the PSK programme and state budget resources, MZ SR follows the principles of transparency, expertise, partnership, quality and innovation. Important documents, including the concept of support and research support schemes, are publicly available. All relevant documents are consulted with the Healthy Society and the Scientific Council of the Slovak Republic.
The efficiency of the work of the newly created MZ SR section is also evidenced by the fact that the new prepared Evaluation and Selection Criteria for the first three calls were sent by the European Commission a commendable statement on the quality and complexity of the prepared evaluation criteria and without comments on them. MZ SR plans to announce five demand-oriented calls in an indicative amount of 115.5 million between September and October 2024. This represents up to 58% of the allocation to health R & D under PSK. In addition, a public budget call of EUR 3 million will be launched. In the following structure:
- The PSK calls:
- Technical call for the continuation of the second phase of the projects, amounting to 10.1 million €2 billion in support of biobank infrastructure from the previous programming period (already in implementation)
- Completing research infrastructures - supporting applied research and development for projects from idea to product in the Healthy Society domain of 50 million. EUR
- Support for international cooperation in research, development and innovation in the Healthy Society domain amounting to 8.5 million EUR-Completion of research infrastructure for excellent researchers in the Domain Healthy company of 27 million EUR

- Call for state subsidies:
- Support for applied biomedical research of 3 million EUR to support personalised/precisional medicine, innovative products (including (bio) materials and biotechnology; health processes and processes
We believe that all these challenges will provide the necessary impetus for research teams, can deliver breakthrough solutions and move the quality of healthcare to a new and higher level by using the results of supported projects.
