V With the participation of Peter Kmec, Deputy Prime Minister for the Recovery Plan and the Knowledge Economy, Kamil Šaška, Minister for Health and Peter Bartony, director of NÚDCH, today opened new premises Department of Children's Neurosurgery for the most serious patients with nervous system diseases from all over Slovakia.
,,The Plan of Recovery and Resilience represents a historic opportunity for the fundamental modernisation of Slovak health. Investment goes not only to the renovation of hospitals and the construction of new facilities, but also to digitisation, improving primary care and improving conditions for health professionals. Health is one of our priorities, because the health of the population is the foundation of a functioning society and economy. The National Institute of Children's Diseases is not just about renovated premises Department of Children's Neurosurgery. It is a workplace where children with the most serious brain and spinal cord diseases will receive top health care at home in Slovakia, surrounded by their loved ones. The opening of the Department of Children's Neurosurgery is a concrete and tangible result of the Recovery Plan, which aims to improve healthcare for all.
The reconstruction of the Department of Children's Neurosurgery will substantially improve the conditions for providing care to children with the most serious neurological diseases. The new premises are functionally and technically adapted to the demanding requirements of modern neurosurgery, from instrumentation to facilities for parents and staff. Thanks to this investment we can ensure better, more effective and safer treatment of children's patients in Slovakia. This is a concrete result of the recovery plan, which has the ambition to change health not only on paper, but in practice, in hospitals where people are being treated," Kamil Šaško, the Minister for Health, stressed that this project was a project.
,,The conditions for providing health care for all - children's patients from all over Slovakia, parents of children and, last but not least, the staff. In a pleasant and attractive environment, everyone feels better and more comfortable. Conditions have also been created for the development of robotic and digital surgery in terms of performances comparable to prestigious workplaces abroad. This unique workplace has a capacity of 15 beds for children from all over Slovakia with the need for highly specialised neurosurgical treatment. Its character is the workplace of children's neurosurgery only in Slovakia, and a highly specialised team is dedicated to the operation of central nervous system tumours, hydrocephalus, craniostenosis, clefts of the spine, peripheral nerves, craniocerebral injuries, spasticity and epileptochirgy, and MUDr said. Peter Barton, director of NÚDCH and also thanked all interested parties for realizing the premises of this unique workplace of children's neurosurgery in Slovakia.
With the establishment of the Centre for Robotic Surgery, the NÚDCH became the first children's hospital in Slovakia, which will soon start using robotically assisted surgery for the operation of children's patients. ,,Since the birth of child surgery in Bratislava, April 1, 1953, we performed all the surgery at our clinic, including the performance of children's neurosurgery, in which our colleagues devoted themselves to this specialization in the past. The constant development of new technical options, devices, new knowledge in diagnostics and operational performances has led to subspecialisation in a specific area over the time of children's surgeons. 6 years ago, within the Children's Surgery Clinic (KDCH), we created a team of colleagues who devoted themselves to a purely paediatric neurosurgery patient and, in April 2019, the KDCH created a Neurocentrum, where our patients have the diagnostic and therapeutic options comparable to that of abroad. If I have to express my opinion in one word today, I will finally use the word! we have been able to complete this process during the six years and create a separate part of KDCH - Department of Children's Neurosurgery, where, in addition to diagnostics and treatments, there are facilities and environments in which we treat patients. I am convinced that not only patients, but also their parents, who are experiencing one of the most difficult times in their lives, will feel more comfortable in the new premises, " said MUDr. Igor Béder, PhD., Deputy Director of Surgery Departments and Deputy Head of Clinic of Children's Surgery LF UK and NÚDCH. ,This is a significant change in terms of working environment and conditions for providing quality health care. Just as we have tried to make the environment pleasant for our small patients, so adequate conditions have been created for nursing staff, parents and outpatient neurosurgery components. The department will be fully equipped with monitoring and infusion techniques with central monitoring, adequate to the level of neurosurgical care provided. The apparatus with central monitoring is thus a department at the level of intermedia care," said prof. Dr. Bruno Rudinský, CSc., coordinator Department of Child Neurosurgery.
The new workplace of children's neurosurgery has brought significant change for patients and staff, while currently it has 4 rooms for patients within the areas of Children's Surgery Clinic, there are 9 rooms (6 double and 2 single) and an insulating room. The dining room is also ready for children, which also serves as a game room and school. The department is functionally divided into two parts - a bed and an outpatient office. In the bed part, rooms for patients are designed modern, functionally and in pleasant pastel colors. One room is designed as an insulating for infectious patients, two rooms are designed for toddlers with a counter with built-in bathtub. The patient rooms are equipped with new solitaire and built-in furniture, supplemented with medical gases and cooling. The rooms also include a place for accompanying parents. The new architectural solution also has a dining room, which serves as a game room and class for small patients.
Staff have a reception and a separate examination room for patients, a meeting room with full technical equipment. There are also doctors' and two professional offices in the department. The whole department is wheelchair-free. The infirmary is located in the center of the department, near it is the opinion of nurses, which will serve as a central monitoring of children's patients and "reception." In the vicinity there is a kitchen for staff and a large multifunctional consiliary room. In the framework of the reconstruction and modernization of new workplace areas of children's neurosurgery was also thought of accompanying parents, for which there is a facility for rest and rest. While accompanying the child, they can be accommodated in a room with children or in a room for parents, where there are three beds. Parents also have a separate sanitary facility and a kitchen fully equipped with appliances. At the entrance to the department are built dressing rooms and a room designed for parents. Design and architectural solution were designed very sensitive to be functional and pleasant for children from birth to adulthood, as well as staff and accompanying parents.
