In recent weeks, The Slovak National Transfusion Service at its collection sites is the decline of blood donors, which is also manifested by a decrease in blood supply. It therefore calls on blood donors not to hesitate to come and donate this precious fluid to help replenish blood supply.
The situation of blood deficiency is repeated annually in the summer months due to holiday periods, travel, high daily temperatures. There is also a persistent COVID-19 disease in the reduced number of blood donors, and it is also temporary secretions from blood donation due to travel abroad. These days there is mainly a lack of blood type A and all Rh negative blood groups.
In NTS workplaces, blood donors with any blood group are welcome, as we never know which blood group will need hospital facilities to save lives. NTS therefore calls on blood donors not to hesitate and to help replenish blood supplies so that we can fully supply hospital facilities in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
With regard to the holiday period and increased travel abroad, we draw attention to the fact that it is possible to donate blood after returning from European Union countries after 7 days and after returning from outside the European Union it is 28 days later. It is possible to donate blood on Monday to Friday during the collection hours, which are from 7:00 to 14:00, except Tuesday, when it is possible to donate blood from 7:00 to 17:00. All current information on blood donation can be found on the website www.ntssr.sk.
