Thousands of patients in Orava and Liptov will no longer have to travel to more distant places for magnetic resonance. In the Hornooravská hospital with the poliklinika Trstená and in the Liptov hospital with the poliklinika MUDr. Ivan Stodola Liptovský Mikuláš on Friday, new magnetic resonance (MRI) workplaces were officially taken over by contractors and suppliers. The key part of the MRI technology itself was financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Slovakia.
Health care at the highest level must not depend on where one lives. Thanks to the Recovery Plan, we bring modern diagnostics directly to the regions of Trstena and Liptovsky Mikulas. said Minister of Health Kamil Šaško.
After training staff, testing the technology and setting up all necessary processes, they will examine the first patients this autumn. The opening of both workplaces will increase the diagnostic capabilities of hospitals and increase the availability of imaging tests for the inhabitants of Liptov and Orava regions.

New MRIs will bring faster and more accurate diagnostics for both hospitalized and outpatient patients. In the case of Liptov Hospital the availability of emergency tests will be improved, especially in neurological diagnoses, strokes or acute spinal cord damage. Patients will no longer have to be transported to a hospital in Ružomberok or Poprad, thus reducing the time needed for diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
The introduction of magnetic resonance imaging in our regional hospitals represents an important step in improving healthcare and the complexity of patient services. Modern diagnostic technologies will allow doctors to diagnose faster, adjust treatment more effectively and increase patient safety. added director of health department of Žilina self-governing region Silvia Pekarčíková.
The total amount of investment in both workplaces exceeded EUR 6.5 million. Financing was provided from the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic, Žilina Self-Governing Region and the own resources of hospitals.
- Liptov Hospital with Polyclinic Liptovský Mikuláš: over 2.8 million Euro
- Hornoorav Hospital with Polyclinic Trstena: over 2.67 million euro
The MRI technology itself, thanks to the Recovery and Resilience Plan, financed EUR 1 845 000 in each hospital, VAT included both Liptovský Mikuláš as part of a wider modernisation of the hospital equipment.
From the Recovery and Resilience Plan, ten new magnetic resonances are added together, four in Bratislava, three in Košice and one in Nitra, Trstená and Liptovsky Mikulas. Investment aims to increase the quality and availability of diagnostics and to reduce waiting times for examinations directly in regions.
