At the initiative of the Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Dolinková, a discussion was held today on the situation concerning the departure of gastroenterologists from the University Hospital in Bratislava (UNB) to the University Hospital of St. Michael (UNSM). The meeting was attended by the Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic Matúš Šutaj-Eštok, director of UNB Alexander Mayer and general director of the University Hospital of St.Michael Ladislav Kužela.
The outcome of the negotiations Conclusion of the Memorandum of Cooperation between UNB and UNSM: ,,We agreed on the conclusion of the Memorandum of Cooperation, which will guarantee patient examination and treatment in both facilities even after 31.3. 2024, said Alexander Mayer after the meeting.
The aim of the UNB management together with the Slovak Medical University (SZU) is to maintain the workplace in relation to patients, but also to students, as the Gastroenterological Clinic of SZU and UNB is also an important teaching base for doctors, nurses and further education of doctors.
I see the signature of the cooperation document as an important step with regard to the most important part of the whole system, and that is the patient. added the Director General of UNSM Ladislav Kužela after the discussion. The two parties have a high interest in resolving the situation with the sole aim of ensuring accessible healthcare for patients. said Matúš Šutaj-Eštok, Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic after the meeting.
The management of the UNB has confirmed that they are continuing negotiations with the staff who have submitted statements, and we are also working very hard to recruit new staff so that health care is maintained in full after 1.4.2024.
I consider it necessary to take all steps to preserve the Clinic of gastroenterology of SZU and UNB at St. Cyril and Methodius Hospital, as well as to open the gastroenterology department at St. Michael's Hospital. I promised to allocate capital resources for further development of the functioning and quality of healthcare provision in UNB - the only terminal university hospital of the fifth level in Slovakia, Closed by Minister Zuzana Dolink.
