Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic through The Department of Standard Clinical Practices officially launched a new national project aimed at systematic development of standard clinical procedures, which will serve as a basis for improving the quality, effectiveness and consistency of healthcare in Slovakia. The project is implemented in close cooperation with respected experts from all key areas of health and builds on national projects implemented in the period 2017 - 2023. https://health.gov.sk/?spdtp.
The main objective of the project is to strengthen the outpatient sector, which plays a crucial role in the provision of primary and specialised healthcare. Creating and implementing uniform professional standards will help doctors in everyday practice while contributing to better accessibility and quality of services for patients.
Standard clinical procedures are one of the tools for modernising and effectively operating health care. Thanks to this project, we will be able to create transparent and scientifically sound recommendations for practice, which will strengthen the expertise and increase the trust of patients in the system, and said General Director of Health Section, Dr. Adriána Liptáková, PhD, MPH, univ. prof..
The project is also an important step towards meeting the objectives defined in the Strategy for improving the accessibility and quality of outpatient care (BAS strategy). Thus, creating standard clinical procedures will not only contribute to a more efficient functioning of the outpatient sector, but also to reducing regional disparities and raising the standard of care across the entire health system.
Standard clinical procedures will be developed with the active participation of professional companies, chambers, associations, patient representatives and other relevant partners. The Ministry of Health plans to ensure that the resulting standard clinical procedures are practically usable and accessible to all healthcare providers.
Using standard clinical practice will contribute to:
- a clear determination of competences between doctors and other health professionals;
- improving the quality of healthcare;
- unifying procedures in the various fields of medicine;
- eliminating misapplications and ultimately saving the resources spent on healthcare;
- awareness raising and active participation in prevention in the general population;
- increasing the uptake rate of preventable diseases by performing screening.
