The National Institute of Children's Health in Bratislava today, in the presence of the Minister of Health Zuzana Dolinková, opened the reconstructed Clinic of Children's Neurology.
Can you imagine being at the hospital with your child for months? Children's neurological diseases are a great unknown to many, yet it is a field that is among the most difficult. With many diagnoses, the child becomes a patient from birth and is accompanied by a serious illness throughout his life. As he is accompanied by health professionals at the Clinic of Children's Neurology LF UK and NUDICH doctors, nurses, assistants, clinical psychologists, special educators, physiotherapists - people who join the family of a child with incurable disease and are with them all childhood. That's why she was reconstruction of the Children's Neurology Clinic one of the priorities of the largest children's hospital in Slovakia. Ministry of Health SR through capital expenditure contributed to reconstruction by 597 169.97 Euroa € 231 398.52 paid by the hospitalat its own operating costs.
I am very pleased to find the means to reconstruct the NUDCH neurological clinic, which will make it possible to significantly improve health care for our smallest patients with serious diagnoses. First of all, I am pleased that the reconstruction will also improve the conditions for the parents of hospitalized patients, whose presence is very important in the treatment of our small patients and usually spend months with them here, said Minister for Health Zuzana Dolinková.
A large gymnasium is also part of the reconstructed clinic, so patients no longer have to go through the entire hospital for rehabilitation, but experts come directly to them. The comfort of the parent was also thought. Besides the kitchen for parents, we gradually arrange rooms so that parents have their comfort, because they are an essential part of the clinic and the healing process.
We know many of us with a child in the hospital, many of us were like parents in the hospital, but can you imagine being in the hospital for months? That your home will be limited to one fold-out bed and suitcase with the common goal of helping a sick child? That is why in the new department we tried to increase the comfort for parents, whether in the form of air-conditioning units, own sanitary facilities or equipped kitchens, says Director NÚDCH MUDr. Peter Barton.
Children at our clinic cannot be hospitalized on their own even when they are old. They're always children with a guide. Our patient's parent is an essential part of the clinic. It's the help we need. Our patients are very different from other children in other departments because they are really children with specific needs that need a specific area and access. These are really our children, which you must like. Not every health care professional has this vision, and perhaps not everyone knows the price of these small patients as well as the value of their parents, added the head of the Clinic of Child Neurology doc. Therefore, the goal was to create therapeutic rooms for psychologists, a practice room, but also a nice room for parents who are hospitalized with children for months.
Clinic equipment was also provided thanks to hospital civic association Helping Children with NED and many sponsors and good people. From the funding of donors managed to arrange rooms with furniture, buy quality folding beds for parents, build a school, kindergarten, playroom, room for psychologists, or reconstruct balconies. The current visual of the clinic is not yet final, the latest finishing work is in the process, but benefits for patients, parents and staff are already considerable. We are currently preparing to build a new department of neurosurgery, completion of emergency income and complete reconstruction and enhancement of the Clinic of Children's Psychology.
