Louisa University Hospital Pasteur (UNLP) in Košice commemorated the 100th anniversary of its establishment with the participation of President Peter Pellegrini, Minister of Health Zuzana Dolinková, Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker, and Minister of Investment, Regional Development and Informatics Richard Rashi.
"With its current activities and contemporary amenities and practice, the University Hospital of Louis Pasteur confirms that it belongs to the top medical facilities in Slovakia. It combines a long tradition with state-of-the-art trends in medicine and management," said President Peter Pellegrini, who thanked hospital staff for everything they did for patients.
Minister for Health Zuzana Dolinková expressed thanks to all those who contributed to the development of the hospital. She appreciated that the hospital raised a number of top experts and became a teaching base for future doctors. Several personalities of Košice medicine are still considered legends of the whole Slovak health care system and are part of our history. "It is clear to us that a gradual modernisation of this hospital will be necessary to ensure the quality of healthcare provision in this healthcare facility. That is also why we are trying to provide Košice University Hospital with the necessary funding through capital expenditure," said the Minister for Health.
The State Hospital in Košice was inaugurated on 24 June 1924, and at that time it was the largest and most modern hospital in Slovakia. Current UNLP Košice is the second largest hospital in Slovakia and the terminal hospital for the region of Eastern Slovakia. The UNLP currently has more than 1350 beds and almost 4000 employees. They handed the commemorative medals to cooperating health institutions and educational institutions. They also reminded and appreciated the personalities of Košice medicine, including a prominent surgeon and teacher Ján Kňazovický.
