On Tuesday 31.05.2022, a working meeting was held of sisters of self-governing regions SK 8, organized by the main sister of the Prešov self-governing region, doc. PhDr. Tatiana Hrindová, PhD. State Secretary Lenka Dunajová Družkovská and director of nursing and other health professions Silvia Bodnárová attended the meeting. In the Slovak Republic, in Europe and in the world, sisters in regions and communities also have an irreplaceable mission, are conscientious in their work and perform irreplaceable care. This was also done by the Covid-19 pandemic, and by the situation with war refugees from Ukraine.

The main theme of the working meeting was the development of long-term care in the regions and the possibility of coordination of the provision of nursing care by self-governing regions. In June 2022, the amendment to Act 576/2004 Coll. on the provision of health care services related to the provision of health care, which regulates the field of long-term and palliative care, will be published in the second reading. One of the main objectives of the care reform is to ensure adequate care for long-term sick patients, especially in their natural environment, mobile teams, to prevent or improve the quality of life in social services facilities, to prevent hospitalisations and to reduce the length of hospitalisation. This objective will be met by building a system of community care for patients, building new and renovating existing mobile hospices, material and technical equipment for new and existing ADOS, building new stone hospices or increasing the number of palliative beds.

State Secretary of the Slovak Republic said: The Ministry of Health is aware of the urgency which requires solutions for the effective system of providing care for thousands of uncontrolled, seriously ill and fragile patients. Both in mental health care and long-term care, we appreciate the active participation of sisters from regions in the development of the National Active Ageing Programme.

Sisters of self-governing regions also addressed the application of diagnostic and therapeutic standards in nursing practice. MZ SR has recently issued the following standards: Comprehensive care management of patients with dementia, immobile patient, patient with chronic wound, probe, lack of self-service and self care, with decubit, swallowing disorders, behavioral disorders, risk of malnutrition, palliative care for children. The development of standard procedures is supported by a grant from the Operational Programme Human Resources entitled: Development of new and innovative standard clinical procedures and their introduction into medical practice. On this occasion, the State Secretary called on the sisters of self-governing regions not to be afraid to contact the MZ SR with proposals for the development of standards which they most lack in practice and in the field. In addition to the need to increase salaries, the people agreed on the need to address human resources stabilisation, interpersonal relations in workplaces, non-financial forms of motivation, working conditions, simplification and unification of nursing documents, etc. The development of a national strategy to stabilise human resources and to strengthen scarce health personnel is under way. Confirmed by the State Secretary. She invited colleagues to be inspired, for example, by the support programme of Žilina Self-Governing Region entitled: Human Resources in Health ŽSK. Its work is based on PhDr. Silvia Pekarčíková, MPH, MHA, director of Health Department ŽSK. Stabilization of staff has proven to be effective in student subsidies, graduate contributions, mentor contributions, entry one-off recruitment grants, promotion of lifelong learning, subsidy programme for work in specialised workplaces and so on. At the end of the meeting, a working group of sisters of the self-governing region and colleagues from MZ SR were created, who will meet on a monthly basis. The next meeting will be held on 24 June 2022. Representatives of the professional organisations of nurses and other health professions (SKSaPA and SK MTP) will also be invited to the working group. The Task Force was created in response to the awareness that: The current state of care provision requires a fundamental change in coordination and the promotion of sharing

information, because only by working together can we respond more quickly and correctly to unexpected situations, added the State Secretary.
