Big day for the Poprad hospital. Fifty years after its inauguration, the most historically extensive and investment-intensive reconstruction begins. The objective of the comprehensive renovation and conversion financed by the amount of EUR 42 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan is to modernise and renovate hospital buildings, technical infrastructure and reduce energy intensity. In less than 900 days the reconstruction of all 10 floors of the bed and another 8 floor complement, all in full operation of the hospital.
The hospital is an important place within the Slovak health system and it is important to be able to provide healthcare at the highest level. I am therefore very pleased that I am bringing good news to this region, and from today on, we will hear a lively building industry in a Poprad hospital. Forgotten tapped stones is enough. The money from Brussels will be used to be felt by citizens in the most valuable place, in their health, said Peter Pellegrini, Chairman of the Slovak National Council.
The huge investment of more than 42 million euros will mean that in the region under the Tatras, which also visits many tourists, both domestic and foreign, patients will have a modern hospital. The newly renovated hospital will bring better comfort for patients and a more attractive environment for healthcare professionals. Modern medical technology will also be an attraction for top professionals to be interested in operating in the hospital, said Minister for Health Zuzana Dolinková.
We are facing an extremely difficult period, but the result will be important. The result will be felt by every patient, visitor, as well as by all hospital staff in the form of the most modern healthcare facilities. I would like to thank all colleagues for their hard work in preparing the project and moving the individual departments. We have mastered the most logistically demanding process and the first construction works are underway, informed the CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of the Hospital Poprad, a. s., Stanislav Kandrik.
The preparation of the premises before the beginning of the construction works was divided into four stages, during which gradually moved the bedroom departments located on the 1st to 3rd floors and at the same time the ambulance from the 1st floor complement. On Friday, March 1, the demolition works started on the first floor of the bed and complement. In record time, from June 2022 to November 2022, the project documentation of the reconstruction of the main building was completed. Subsequently, all necessary documents were provided in a short time. In addition, the big project required assessment by the Value Unit for Money MF SR and state expertise. Technical preparation was completed by the final building permit 24.6. 2023. The public procurement process, which lasted 4 months, was also challenging. Public procurement resulted in savings of 1⁄3 from budgeted price. However, the most difficult thing was to come up with an entire rebuilding during unlimited operation. We drew from the experience of rebuilding the clinic, which ran at the same time as preparing several projects, said the director of the technical and operational section of the Hospital Poprad, a. s., Elizabeth Pitoráková. Comprehensive reconstruction and reconstruction of Hospital Poprad in the final will bring the hospital 452 beds that meet the requirements of the 21st century. It will be not only standard beds, but also beds, where patients receive intensive care. All rooms will be double or single and will have their own sanitary facilities.After reconstruction, our hospital will be one of the most modern hospitals in Slovakia. It has its specifics, given the wide catchment area it covers, and I am therefore pleased that people will be provided with even better quality healthcare, with increased comfort not only for patients, but also for the staff themselves, evaluated the mayor of Poprad, Anton Danko.
Poprad Hospital is the largest health care provider in the region under the High Tatras and the second largest health care provider in the Prešov self-governing region. Falling area Poprad Hospital, a.s., consists of the district of Poprad with a number of 102,7 thousand inhabitants. In some medical fields, the catchment area is extended to other neighbouring districts of Kežmarok (73.7 thousand inhabitants), Levoča (33.1 thousand inhabitants), Spišská Nová Ves (98.7 thousand inhabitants), Stará Ľubovňa (52.9 thousand inhabitants) and Gelnica (31.7 thousand inhabitants). The hospital Poprad, a. s., is located near the hiking sought-after High Tatras, so the number of potential users of hospital services includes domestic and foreign visitors of the High Tatras, as well as patients of healing institutions and spas with nationwide scope in the surroundings. In the season, some departments account for up to 30% of patients outside the catchment area as well as foreign patients.
