The Kingdom of the Netherlands has donated two secure van-type vehicles to Slovakia, specially adapted for the transport of persons requiring special treatment. These include psychiatric patients or persons placed in detention centres.
Each of the vehicles worth approximately 40 thousand Euro consists of three separate units (2+2+3 persons), is equipped with a camera and alarm system and can transport up to seven people. The take-over took place on 29 January 2026 in the presence of the Minister for Health Kamil Šaška, representative of the Ministry of Security and Justice of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Erik de Borsta, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Slovakia Jules Gerzon and Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Netherlands Juraj Podhorský.
Bilateral cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the Netherlands is particularly active in several areas, including health. I am pleased that Professor Karol Matulay's Psychiatric Hospital in Kremnica and the Greater Záluži Psychiatric Hospital will receive specially adapted vehicles designed for safe transport of patients. I also appreciate the continuation of cooperation with the Kingdom of the Netherlands on several projects, such as forensic psychiatry, psychology and detection system, as well as the support for the construction of a new children's cancer center in Bratislava, and the Minister of Health Kamil Šaško, said.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands has given us this gift in the framework of cooperation in the field of repatriation of our citizens with mental illness from the Netherlands back to Slovakia. The Slovak Embassy in The Hague has always been helpful, professional and prompt in these repatriations and this cooperation will continue.
