From 1 March 2024, Brezno Polyclinic Hospital has been assigned to the second (regional) level of hospitals. The temporary transfer of this medical facility was decided by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic due to the transport reconstruction work in the region.
I am pleased that we can also bring positive news from this place today - this time to patients from Central Slovakia. The main benefit for patients from this mountainous region with more complicated road infrastructure will be the provision of accessible and quality healthcare, said Peter Pellegrini, Chairman of the Slovak National Council.
By becoming a member of Level II, the hospital will fulfil all the legal obligations applicable to medical establishments of this level, including special personnel requirements, special material-technical requirements and limits on the number of hospital and medical procedures,Minister for Health Zuzana Dolinková explained.
Following the recent joint negotiations between the Ministry of Health, the management of the Hospital with the Polyclinic Brezno, as well as representatives of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region, the Brezno Hospital was temporarily relegated to the higher, second level within the so-called "optimization of the hospital network."
The reason for this step is the ongoing complex reconstruction of several bridges and the conversion of the R1 expressway in the section Banská Bystrica - Slovenská Ľupča. We are particularly concerned that patients should not be harmed by the hospital's availability and that they should have access to healthcare even in the event of a deterioration in the transport situation at the time of reconstruction. Therefore, it was necessary to change the category of hospital in Brezno temporarily by the time the reconstruction works on these roads were completed.
