The Minister of Health Kamil Šaško today opened a new Urological Department in St. Cyril and Methodius UNB to break down urinary stones. Together with the Director The University Hospital Bratislava by Alexander Mayer and the dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University by Juraj Payer also visited the reconstructed premises of Clinic Otorinolaryngology, head and neck surgery LF UK and UNB in the outpatient sector.
Workplace of litotriptor and reconstruction of ORL offices are projects primarily financed from capital expenditure provided by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. The purchase of equipment for offices was financed from the Integrated Regional Operational Programme (IROP), which is the funding provided by the European Union Fund.
The modernization of hospitals and their equipment with the latest cutting-edge devices is crucial for constantly improving the quality of healthcare provision for our patients. I am therefore very pleased that two million euros have been allocated from the capital expenditure of the health department to provide a new modern apparatus for the extracorporeal lithotriptor and for the necessary building adjustments to hospital premises. At the same time, patients are waiting for modern renovated premises of ORL offices for 380 thousand Euro from the capital resources of the resort with new equipment from European funds. I am very pleased that in this way we are gradually improving the quality of the healthcare provided for patients as well as the conditions for our healthcare professionals.said Minister of Health Kamil Šaško.
The ORL premises in the outpatient sector have undergone complex reconstruction and modernisation. The Ministry of Health provided the UNB for the reconstruction of the premises of 380 000 EUR, which were used to replace floors, lights, as well as new wiring, water distribution, sewerage and complete equipment of offices. The current reconstruction and modernization of the background Otorinolaryngology, head and neck surgery LF UK and UNB, specifically the bedding part. This reconstruction is also largely financed by funds from the Ministry of Health, which provided EUR 328 000 for reconstruction.

The Hospital of St. Cyril and Methodius, as part of the University Hospital Bratislava, was included in the project of restoring equipment and extending the offer of health performance portfolio for patients. Part of this modernization is the purchase of litotriptor apparatus and subsequent construction adjustments for its location. The operating hall complex has added a new space to which the extracorporeal litotriptor of the latest generation has been installed, which is a device to break down urinary stones that can occur in various locations, e.g. kidneys, ureter or bladder. Extracorporeal litotriptor serves to break stones in the urinary system using extracorporeal waves. This procedure is extremely effective, almost painless for the patient and takes about 45 minutes to complete the process. The patient completes this exercise in full consciousness, this is a very gentle method. Compared to classical surgery, the patient has no surgical wound, saves on the number of hospitalized days of the patient, significantly shorter inability to work. Patients undergoing this exercise are generally released from their homes the next day.
In the framework of St. Cyril and Methodius Hospital, these reconstructions and modernizations are among the biggest and most demanding events we have implemented in our second largest hospital in the last three years. In the case of litotriptor, we are moving in a few steps towards improving health care and approaching world trends of gentle but very effective treatment. We will continue to modernize, when we will begin reconstruction of the Eye Clinic in the coming months, which is located in St. Cyril and Methodius Hospital and belongs to our most successful workplaces with patients from all over Slovakia. said Alexander Mayer, director of University Hospital Bratislava.Minister zdravotníctva Kamil Šaško dnes v Nemocnici sv.
