Minister of Health Kamil Šaško and Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for the Recovery Plan and Knowledge Economy Peter Kmec, hospital management and representatives of Poprad today officially opened a renovated geriatric pavilion at Poprad Hospital financed by the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, with a total value of more than 5 million. VAT.
Poprad Hospital undergoes historically the largest reconstruction and modernization. Medical facilities provide care not only to the inhabitants of the region but also to tourists who enjoy staying in our mountains. Two projects are implemented from the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Today they opened a renovated geriatric pavilion. This project is implemented under the so-called small investment challenge in a total volume of more than EUR 5 million including VAT. Reconstruction and modernization achieved better comfort for the patient. The implementation of the project will increase the bed fund department to 59 full beds. During the next period, the completion works and the gradual operation of the entire building will continue. The reconstructed premises will also serve to temporarily place patients from other departments.
First of all, I want to highlight the speed at which the management of Poprad Hospital was able to implement this project. Because the whole building really required a complex renovation, whether we're talking about outer casings, windows, air conditioning, new electrical wiring or elevator. It is a major step forward, both in terms of quality of healthcare and comfort for patients, and in terms of improving the working conditions of health professionals. said Health Minister K. Šaško. He recalled the importance of this medical facility not only for residents but also for visitors to the region. I am pleased to see the result of our joint efforts to improve the quality of hospitals. Many of them need modernisation and we are doing our utmost to ensure better care for our citizens. I believe that we will see similar positive examples more and more in other cities in Slovakia, stated P. Kmec, Deputy Prime Minister for the Recovery Plan.
Within the framework of the major project - Complex renovation and rebuilding of Poprad Hospital will reconstruct 10 bed floors, they will incorporate modern solutions, which will also significantly contribute to reducing the energy intensity of buildings. The schedule of works provides for the completion of the conversion into summer 2026. The investment in this project exceeds EUR 42 million, VAT excluded. After implementation of both projects, the hospital will meet the highest standards of 21st century healthcare provision for patients.
