The Slovak Ministry of Health signed a memorandum with the town of Banská Bystrica and the Faculty Hospital with the Polyclinic F. D. Roosevelta Banská Bystrica on long-term cooperation. The Memorandum establishes a framework for joint development of health, education, research and innovation in the region that goes beyond the construction of a new hospital itself.
The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic Kamil Šaško, Mayor of Banská Bystrica Ján Nosko, CEO of FNsP F. D. Roosevelta Miriam Lapuníková and project director Tomáš Rusinák.
The construction of a new hospital in Banská Bystrica is one of the state's most important investments in health care. We are proud to bring a comprehensive vision along with the city and hospital management. The hospital will not only be a top patient centre, but will become the core of innovation, education and new development of Central Slovakia, underlined the Minister of Health Kamil Šaško.
The partners agreed to cooperate in the following areas:
- creating conditions for the establishment and development of the medical faculty in Banská Bystrica and for the fulfilment of legal conditions for the use of the designation university hospital,
- the development of clinical and practical teaching, resident programmes and specialisation studies and the interconnection of secondary, higher and higher vocational health education;
- developing biomedical and clinical research, digital health and health technologies;
- an assessment of the further use of current hospital facilities after the transfer of healthcare to new premises, including available rental and boarding accommodation;
- coordination of investment plans and preparation of projects for the European Union programming period 2028 to 2034.
In order to coordinate cooperation, the partners shall establish a Joint Coordination Board. Financing of specific investments will be subject to separate agreements and decisions.
The next generation hospital will provide health care at world level. This includes dormitories, rental housing, an innovative environment and a conversion into a university hospital, so that there is also a medical institution. This is an example of what cooperation between the state, local authorities, hospitals and the academic sector should look like. This will create an integrated ecosystem that will be an attractive environment for young people and students to stay in the region they come from, added the Minister.
