Zuzana Dolinková, Minister of Health, today brings good news for Slovakia in connection with the construction of Martin Hospital. The demanding public procurement process has ended and its winner can start building the hospital practically immediately. The new hospital will not only be a top medical facility for patients but also an important place for teaching future doctors.
Minister for Health Zuzana Dolinková recalled that the entire project of a completely new Martin hospital was born during the reign of Peter Pellegrini. Unfortunately, following the 2020 elections, he started to be very late, like many other useful things. Therefore, after I took office as Minister for Health, he became one of my main priorities. Slovakia simply needs a new top hospital. And we are obliged to do everything we can to use the gro funds for its construction from the resources of the European Recovery Plan, said Zuzana Dolinková.
A few days ago, the demanding procurement process for the construction of Saint Martin University Hospital in Martin ended. The winner, a group of suppliers, can start building soon. However, there has been one and understandable change in comparison to the original assumptions: after huge inflation, the original European funds planned will no longer be sufficient for the construction of the hospital. We must avoid getting another concrete skeleton instead of a hospital because of their lack. I will therefore ask the government tomorrow to commit with the resolution that the remaining funds will be found either by changes and savings in the Recovery Plan, the EU funds or in the state budget. Minister Dolink approached. As it added, funds will only be really needed in 2027. But this government guarantee can start real construction in just a few days.
The first real excavation on the site of a new hospital can only be a matter of days. Slovak patients need a new hospital in Martin, they deserve top health care and new doctors excellent education. It will be an honor to show them that this long-term plan is finally becoming a reality,In conclusion, Minister Zuzana Dolinková added.
