The Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic continues to extend the availability of treatment for patients in Slovakia. Since August 2025, 50 medicinal products have been categorized in 55 indications. This widened treatment options in oncology, haematology, neurology, rheumatology, dermatology, cardiology, pneumology, endocrinology or gastroenterology. Among the included medicines are long-awaited treatment options for patients with rare diseases for which categorised treatment has not yet been available in the public health insurance system.
It's another one of the topics I've been talking about since I started as Minister. And he didn't stay with the words, the results speak for us. We are moving the whole system towards greater efficiency, which primarily benefits the Slovak patient in the form of medicines that have not been available to us so far and for which he has been waiting for many years. says Health Minister Kamil Šaško.
This week the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic decided to include additional medicines on the list of categorised medicines. New treatment options will be available to patients from 1 October 2026. For example, it is a medicinal product for patients with acute hepatic porphyria - a rare hereditary disease for which no treatment covered by public health insurance has been available within the scope of categorised medicinal products.
A significant extension of treatment options is also the inclusion of new indications in oncology, which were long-term expected between patients and the professional public. This is the treatment of adult patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma suitable for autologous stem cell transplantation or adult patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma after two or more lines of systemic treatment.
The inclusion of new medicines and indications is a significant step towards improving the availability of modern treatment for patients in Slovakia. Patients concerned with new treatment options may, from 1 October 2026, contact their treating doctor or specialist. The suitability of a particular treatment is decided by the doctor on the basis of the patient's health and pay conditions.
At the Ministry of Health, we will continue to systematically adopt measures under my leadership that improve the availability of treatment and patient care in Slovakia, Closed by Minister Shaško.
