Prime Minister Robert Fico and Minister of Health Kamil Šaško took a tour of two strategic projects of modernization of Slovak health funded by the Plan of Recovery and Resilience of the Slovak University Hospital with the Polyclinic F. D. Roosevelt in Banská Bystrica and the new University Hospital of St. Martin. For both, the gross construction (Shell & Core) is completed and the construction progresses according to the schedule.
For this government there is unprecedented building industry in terms of modernising Slovak health. These two hospitals are flagship projects and today we can say responsibly that we will pursue all deadlines and milestones at the highest standards of safety and technological equipment, said Minister of Health Kamil Šaško.
In the history of modern Slovakia, our medical infrastructure has never passed through such extensive modernisation interventions. This is the success of all those involved, and I want to appreciate the enormous efforts made by both hospital and health authorities. Our priority is to ensure a smooth financing for the year 2027 Þ for the continuation of both constructions we count on the sum of 300 mills Euro and together we will find a solution for it in the state budget, added Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Faculty Hospital with Polyclinic F. D. Roosevelt in Banská Bystrica
The construction of Roosevelt Hospital is financed by a combination of resources from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (allocation up to 354 million. (EUR) and co-financing from the state budget to ensure completion and technological equipment of the hospital.
Current construction works on the rough construction were completed, i.e. on reinforced concrete skeleton. Underground interconnection tunnels between the northern and southern objects are already completed, as well as the main branches of rain sewers to drain roofs. Work continues on parts of elevator cores above the roof level, the roof is waterproofed and work started on filling holes and internal partitions. Gross construction of the northern and southern buildings (Shell & Core) will be handed over by 30 July 2026.
The project will continue by covering, interior works and gradual technological equipment. The aim is to open the first part of the hospital in early 2028 and the bed part in January 2029. The new hospital will bring 771 beds and significantly strengthen the availability of specialised healthcare for the inhabitants of Central Slovakia.
St. Martin University Hospital
From the Recovery Plan, about 256 mills Euro is allocated to the Martin project. The total cost of the building is higher and the difference is Þ as it was set up in the project from the beginning of the " covered by the state budget.
The Gross Construction (Shell & Core) is successfully completed, even in advance, and the construction is moving smoothly to the next stage; work is currently being carried out within the next milestone of the project.
The new martin hospital will have 660 beds, bring better quality and more accessible health care and support research, innovation and the education of the next generation of healthcare professionals. It will be built on the principle of full digitisation, also using AI diagnostics, robot surgery and high safety standards. It will also continue to work closely with Jessenio Medical Faculty of UK, Martin Biomedicine Centre and National Biobank.
In a project like this, it is not enough to allocate resources; this is just the beginning. When we took over this place, many have described the project as unfeasible, we are now faced with a concrete result: the hospital of the future, a building that we can truly be proud of. For Martin and the whole region of Central Slovakia, there is a growing world-class workplace and a project for the future of Slovak health, which is not created by words or empty flosculas, but by concrete actions. said Minister of Health Kamil Šaško.
