The construction of the new St Martin University Hospital in Martin was completed in advance and the hospital was the first of the new hospital buildings in Slovakia to light its premises symbolically. The construction of a new hospital is financed by EU funds through the Recovery and Resilience Plan. It is to be completed by the end of 2028 and the first patients should be admitted early in 2029.

Today we are a significant step closer to completing the new Martin hospital. It shows that we can not only prepare large projects but also successfully implement them. In addition to modern technologies, the excellence and long experience of medical staff at Martin University Hospital as well as scientific research projects of international importance will be transferred to the new hospital. Along with Jessenio's Medical School Comenius University will create quality conditions for the education of future generations of health professionals. It is a complex project that pushes Slovak health forward and we can rightly be proud of,Þ said Prime Minister Robert Fico.

There was a field two years ago, today it's shining in a new hospital. This is a concrete result of public health investments. Patients not only from northern Slovakia will find 660 beds mainly in single rooms with the possibility of sleeping with accompanying person. Doctors and nurses will receive a modern workplace with 20 operating halls, including robotic and two hybrid. Thank you all for the smooth progress of the constructionunderlined the Minister of Health Kamil Šaško.

The Recovery and Resilience Plan is one of the most important instruments of the European Union, which gave Slovakia a unique opportunity to raise almost 6.5 billion euros for investment and reforms. Of this total, EUR 1.2 billion was earmarked for the construction of two large new hospitals and the modernisation of nineteen smaller hospitals throughout Slovakia. I am pleased that this investment also includes more than 250 million euros for a new top-class hospital in Martin, which thus brings the quality of healthcare to a level worth the 21st century. European solidarity thus specifically affects the lives of people in Slovakia and the improvement of health care that should be provided to them. It is now in the hands of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic and other domestic partners to use this opportunity to equip the hospital in Martin so that it can serve the public as best as possible soonPeter Stano, Head of the European Commission Representation in Slovakia, said.

By June 2026, the consortium of construction companies completed the gross construction of a new hospital, in advance of the planned deadline. During the summer of work they continued at a high pace: inside the building, technologies, wiring and first rooms are increasing, and the hospital launches public procurement for medical equipment. The lit-up new hospital is another significant symbol of progress in the construction process and also becomes an integral part of Martin's panorama even after dark.
