HEALTH
From a health point of view, the Netherlands will focus on better protection of workers against carcinogens in the workplace. About 100,000 employees die of cancer every year in the European Union. The Netherlands has long tried to promote the extension of the list of carcinogens by setting limit values in the Directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens or mutagens at work. European Commissioner Marianne Thyssen wants to try to achieve this goal during the Dutch Presidency.
The Netherlands also wants to concentrate the debate on the adoption of the following documents during its presidency in the Council of the EU:
- Draft Council conclusions on improving food products
- Draft Council conclusions on antimicrobial resistance
- Draft Council conclusions on pharmaceuticals
