1440 doses of Varicella Vaccines have been delivered to Slovakia. The Jynneos vaccines were obtained and subsequently donated to the Member States by the European Commission. They are stored at Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Košice. On the basis of the contract concluded, the European Commission donated 1440 doses of vaccine against smallpox to the Slovak Republic. The health department is thus prepared for possible worsening of the disease situation and subsequent distribution of vaccines. Jynneos/Imvanex should be prepared by the body to defend against infection in smallpox or smallpox, which contains their modified form. The virus that contains the vaccine is in close association with Variola virus (right smallpox) and monkeypox, but does not cause disease in humans, nor can it replicate in human cells. When the vaccine is given, the immune system recognises the virus in the vaccine as foreign and triggers the production of antibodies. When subsequently vaccinated comes into contact with similar viruses, the antibodies together with other components of the immune system will kill the virus and protect the vaccinated from the outbreak.

Monkey pox is a viral disease whose agent is related to the smallpox virus. The incubation time for the disease is 6 - 13 days, but may be up to 5 - 21 days. At first, the disease of smallpox manifests itself as flu-like symptoms - fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain and swelling of the lymph nodes. Within three days of the onset of prodromal symptoms, a typical rash usually also occurs. The spout can appear anywhere on the body, including palms, feet, mouth, or intimate parts. It may not be extensive, it may be a rare rash. Based on the information available, the likelihood of further spread of the virus among the wider population in EU/EEA countries and globally is low, leading to an overall low risk for the general population. However, the individual risk of developing smallpox may be high for young children, pregnant women, elderly people or immunocompromised persons. The Slovak Public Health Office monitors the situation of monkey pox in Europe. So far we have 14 laboratory confirmed cases of smallpox in Slovakia. The imported vaccines are for worsening of the situation, which is currently stabilised.
