Every year, since 1987, the United Nations (UN) has been declared International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking on 26 June.

The aim of this day is to draw the general public's attention to drugs in their country as well as in the world. At the same time, it is an opportunity to draw society's attention to the danger of drugs and to bring together all those who are aware of the problem and willing to do something to deal with it. Every year, individuals, organisations and whole communities join the project to support their activities in protecting human lives from the negative effects of drugs while at the same time raising this global problem.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime - UNODC declared a common theme for 2022:
Tackling drug problems in health and humanitarian crises

Together we can solve the world's drug problem!

It is at this very, so moving time, from war zones to refugee camps to communities experiencing violence and non-freedom that people in all parts of the world inevitably need help. This is why in 2022 the UNODC specifically focuses attention on the transnational drug challenges arising from crisis situations.

It continues to advocate the protection of the right to health for the most vulnerable persons, including children and young people; for people using drugs; for people who have various health problems and disorders due to drug use; and also for people who need access to controlled medicines.

Take part in this activity by sharing the real facts about the drug situation. Watch sites that provide verified information and facts - from health risks to their solutions, be helpful in solving the global drug problem.

UNODC issues annually The World Drug Report, which contains key statistics and factual data obtained through official sources, based on a scientifically based approach and research.

In 2022, the world continues to witness major humanitarian crises in Afghanistan, Ukraine and elsewhere, while the COVID-19 pandemic is still a major global health crisis. The synthetic drug crisis also requires rapid and adaptable solutions. The importance of global solidarity and the need to take care of everyone in times of crisis is constantly increasing.
