The Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic is preparing to increase the burden of patients with COVID-19 in cooperation with hospitals and other ingredients. During the fourth wave, medical facilities will also have triage tents. These will serve as a sorting site before urgent intake and will ensure not only testing and diagnosis of patients, but also indication of medicinal products to protect urgent intake from transmission of infection.
For the needs of medical facilities, the Ministry of the Interior provided a total of 24 Statutes through the Fire and Rescue Corps of the Slovak Republic. The Fire and Rescue Corps will ensure their 24-hour operation. The 4x8 meter tents will be heated.
So far, 20 hospitals have asked to build a triage tent. Such tents are already in Banská Bystrica and Nitra, but they have not yet been activated. Not every medical facility will use this form. Hospitals can continue to use existing structures and procedures to cope with the increased burden on patients. Medical institutions will also benefit medical and nursing students.
The triage tent will serve as an ejected emergency reception and hospital. Medical personnel there not only conduct testing but also diagnose the patient and indicate further treatment. They will assess and indicate other treatments. According to health status, the patient will then go to home-based treatment or be hospitalized in a healthcare facility. Antigenic tests performed within the triage will be free of charge and the result will be registered in the My Health app. However, the positive result of the antigen test is not considered to be subsequent disease control in accordance with the applicable measures. EU-level discussions are ongoing on both recognition and this form of testing.
Acts in a triage tent with a doctor:
- Testing and epidemiological history (negative -positive).
- Patient health assessment and diagnosis.
- Indication of home treatment, indication of treatment (e.g. monoclonal antibodies).
- Prescription medicines for patients who cannot reach their doctor.
- Sending for urgent reception and hospitalization in a medical facility.
