TERRITORY: Statistical overview of the development of coronavirus related mortality
The Health Care Supervisory Authority has so far ordered a total of 247 dissections due to a suspected death due to a new coronavirus infection (SARS-CoV-2). Observing physicians use COVID antibody as well as PCR tests to effectively identify deaths when a patient with suspected symptoms outside hospital facilities dies, thus contributing to the detection and elimination of possible community dissemination at the site of death. In many cases, other histopathological, immunohistochemical and virological examinations determine the final primary cause of death.
According to the Health Care Supervisory Authority, the number of deaths associated with new coronavirus infection (SARS-CoV-2) in the second wave (last 2 months) increased by 125 percent compared to the first wave (5 months). In the last 3 weeks alone, the Office is investigating 36 deaths, representing an increase of 45% of the total number of deaths since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mean age of patients was 80 years in the first wave and the second wave decreased to 70 years.
