Vaccination against COVID-19 will be on a voluntary basis and without extra pay. We have the vaccines via the European Union, the first 300 000 should be on our market in the second half of December.

The Ministry of Health is working to ensure the protection of the public health of the inhabitants of Slovakia against the coronavirus. As a Member State of the European Union, we are involved in the joint procurement of vaccines for my country. For this purpose, the European Commission Committee for Joint Procurement of Vaccines and the expert team of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic participated in the process.
We consider vaccination to be effective prevention, so our aim was first of all to ensure a sufficient amount of safe vaccines in the shortest possible time. It will be very important to inform the public well about the benefits and the need for vaccination. As there is no mandatory vaccination, experts will in particular have an important role to play in explaining said Minister of Health of the SR Marek Krajčí.

Who should be vaccinated as a priority?

Immunisation strategy - vaccination against epidemic/pandemic diseases. The immunisation strategy describes the coverage of the vaccination population, the logistics of vaccination, its implementation and evaluation. This is already at a time when a particular vaccine is not yet available for direct use on the market. So we already know now which groups need to be immunised in vaccination against COVID-19.

Since the vaccine production process is gradual, it will also not be immediate for all, but gradual, since vaccination must be provided primarily for health care professionals and authorities providing support for the management of the epidemic, e.g. police officers, firefighters and persons operating the basic activities of the state (energy supplies, etc.) as well as for groups with the most difficult clinical course.

If necessary, a person may consult with his or her general physician who is best aware of the patient's medical condition, current illness, and treatment. The general population may be vaccinated in the second line, explained Head of Health Department M. Krajčí.
During purchase negotiations Slovakia can give part of the vaccines from the so-called bazaar from which another state can buy them.
