Vaccination with Covid-19 disease vaccines takes place in 88 centres throughout Slovakia. Since December 2020, the Ministry of Health has been building a network of vaccination centres that takes into account the logistical and storage complexity of individual vaccines..
Currently, there are 88 vaccination centres for the public in Slovakia:
- 60 in hospitals
- 14 in the clinics
- 14 centers are large capacity.
The Ministry of Health has developed the concept of expanding the vaccination network. The development of vaccination centres took into account the storage requirements of individual vaccines. Therefore, Pfizer/BioNTEch vaccine is vaccinated in hospitals, Modern vaccines in polyclinics and in large-capacity centres established by the Ministry in cooperation with the municipalities, astraZeneca vaccine is used. The Ministry of Health has developed a manual for the establishment of large-capacity vaccination centres also on the basis of good practice from abroad and pilot vaccination organised by the Faculty Hospital Trenčín in the sports hall on 6 February. Based on the concept of developing a network of vaccination centres, we initiated a meeting with the self-governing regions and after the presentation of the developed concept of building large capacity centres, the Ministry entrusted them with the coordination of vaccination in their region.
Following the agreement between the Ministry and the self-governing regions, pilot centres in individual counties were opened:
13 and 14 February - VÚC Žilina20. a 21. February - VÚC Trnava, VÚC Banská Bystrica (pilot project in poliklinike) 27. and 28. February - VÚC Bratislava (pilot project in poliklinike), VÚC Košice, VÚC Prešov
In addition to Nitra and Trenčín, large-scale vaccination centres operate in each self-governing region. In Trenčín and Nitra regions, hospitals are still performing this task in their premises, but the Ministry of Health is doing its utmost to ensure that large-scale vaccination centres are created in these towns and regions.
The Ministry of Health appreciates the commitment and cooperation with self-governing regions in building and operating large-capacity vaccination centres. It also believes that this effective and beneficial cooperation will not be used for political purposes in this tense period.
