The Health Minister Kamil Šaško today, November 18, 2024, accepted the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Gabriella Sancisi on the floor of the health department. The topic of the negotiations was deepening bilateral cooperation between countries in the field of child oncology. The progress in the treatment of cancers in children in Slovakia is based on the close cooperation of medical experts at the state level, but also on cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Bilateral cooperation between Slovakia and the Netherlands has already brought about the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation, exchange of know-how, innovative treatment, science and research related to child oncology. It was concluded in 2023 between the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University and the National Institute of Children's Diseases and the Centre of Princess Máxima in Utrecht.
This centre is the centre of excellence and expertise in children's oncology thanks to the complex and multidisciplinary equipment that healthcare provides for its patients. This is also why cooperation between both countries in the field of children's oncology is based on the idea of building a Slovak national centre for children's oncology at a high level, which is intended to centralise efforts in science and expertise in one place and contribute to the EU's objective of reducing mortality.
