Council of Europe (http://www.coe.int/) is the oldest European political organisation for intergovernmental and interparliamentary cooperation. The fundamental objectives of the Council of Europe are the protection of human rights, pluralistic democracy and the rule of law. Its role is to contribute to the awareness and development of European cultural identity and diversity. However, we also need to look for the solutions that European society faces: discrimination against minorities, intolerance, environmental protection, human cloning, drugs, organised crime.
The Council of Europe has 47 Member States. The Slovak Republic became a member country of RE on 30 June 1993. The RE Information Office in Bratislava was established in the same year (http://www.radaeuropy.sk/), whose main task is to disseminate information on the work of the Council of Europe.
